PRESS: US sanctions disrupt imports of materials for MC-21 wings
MOSCOW, Jan 10 (PRIME) -- U.S. sanctions against a composite materials producer belonging to Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) and a firm belonging to state industrial corporation Rostec have stopped imports of materials for MC-21 plane’s wings from Japan and the U.S., Kommersant business daily reported on Thursday.
A source told the daily that the remaining materials can be used to produce six more planes. Ways to solve the problem including imports substitution are being discussed. Production of MC-21 planes can be delayed to 2025 or later.
A representative of Rostec said that the problem is “baseless” as there are reliable foreign composite materials suppliers and own solutions.
A representative of Vice Prime Minister Yury Borisov’s office said that the government is aware of the situation and sees no problems for implementation of the MC-21 medium-range aircraft project.
